Walter Elias Disney
Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago Illinois, USA. He had the typical childhood of the son of a farmer. His father, Elias Disney (1859-1941), of Irish ancestry, had come to the U.S. from Canada and had settled in Chicago soon after his marriage to schoolteacher Flora Call (1868-1938).

Disney stopped working on the development of Disneyworld in the last months of 1966, when was diagnosed with cancer in his left lung after a lifetime of heavy smoking. He passed a medical examination at St. Joseph hospital, next to the Disney studio building, and suffered a cardiac arrest. He died on 15th December 1966. Ten days earlier he had turned 65. His body was cremated on December 17 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California. His brother Roy brought to fruition the Florida theme park, insisting it was called Walt Disney World in honor of his brother. Roy would die three months after the park opened its doors in 1971.
